Butler Celebrates Fall Student-Athlete Success
Jan. 10, 2005
Nearly half of Butler's more than 400 student-athletes achieved at least a 3.25 grade point average (GPA) for the fall, 2004 semester, a distinction which earned them a place on the Butler Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Of Butler's 404 student-athletes, 181 (45 percent) earned at least a 3.25 GPA and/or maintained a cumulative GPA at or above 3.25. Additionally, 22 student-athletes finished the semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Butler's golf teams, under the guidance of coach Steve Jones, topped both the men's and women's teams, with GPAs of 3.48 (men) and 3.37 (women), respectively. On the men's side, track (3.32), cross country and swimming (3.24) and men's tennis (3.20) rounded out the top five. Following golf for the women's teams were swimming (3.36), track (3.33), cross country (3.30) and soccer (3.28).
Many of these student-athletes will be recognized at the Josten's Scholar-Athlete Recognition Day during halftime of a men's basketball game in February. The Horizon League will further recognize several Butler student-athletes later this month when the conference office announces its Academic Honor Roll and "All-Academic Teams" for its fall sports.
