Butler led the Horizon League with 75 student-athletes honored on the league's Academic Honor Roll, announced by the league Friday (Jan. 14). In all, the nine-member conference had 505 student-athletes qualify for the academic honor. UW-Milwaukee placed 70 honorees, while Wright State followed with 61 athletes.
For the league as a whole, a sport-by-sport breakdown places women's soccer (59), women's swimming and diving (57) and women's track and field (52) at the top of the list. On the men's side, men's soccer (45), men's track and field (43) and men's cross country (43) received the most academic honors.
Candidates for the Academic Honor Roll needed to meet three criteria in order to qualify: 1) participate in at least one of the League's 19 sports; 2) must have completed three semesters (four quarters on the quarter system) as a full-time student at the same member institution; and 3) must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 as of Dec. 20, 2004.
Last week, Butler released its Athletic Director's Honor Roll, which requires a 3.25 GPA for the previous semester and/or cumulative for the student-athlete's Butler career, but recognizes qualifiers regardless of semesters completed.
