Butler Athletics Aid in Tsunami Relief
Jan. 21, 2005
The Butler Athletic Department invites fans to aid them in the tsunami relief effort during the Men's Basketball game Saturday against Wright State, with tip-off scheduled at 2 p.m. Jim T. Morris, a long-time Indianapolis resident, sports advocate, and head of the World Food Program contacted Athletic Director John Parry to get Butler Athletics involved in the relief effort.
Following the tsunami, the WFP responded in one of the largest relief efforts in the history of the organization. Over a six-month period, funds collected by the WFP will aid two million survivors of the tsunami, which took the lives of more than 200,000 people in East Asia. Collection buckets will be placed at all main entrances, and cash or checks made out to "Friends of the WFP" will be accepted. Butler soccer players will be at collection tables as fans enter Hinkle Fieldhouse.
