Butler Lands Eight On Academic All-League Teams
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Paced by men’s soccer and
women’s cross country, Butler landed eight student-athletes
on the 2011 Horizon League Fall Academic All-League Teams,
announced by the league office on Monday (Jan. 30). A total
of 54 student-athletes from five fall sports were selected by a
vote of the league’s faculty athletic representatives and
sports information directors.
Chosen from the men’s soccer Academic All-League Team from
Butler were juniors Jordan Burt (Finance) and Austin Oldham
(Finance) and sophomore Brandon Fricke (Economics/Mechanical
Engineering). The women’s cross country team at Butler
placed senior Lauren Haberkorn (Pharmacy), junior Kaitlyn Love
(Early Childhood/Middle Childhood Education) and sophomore Shelbi
Burnett (Secondary Education) on the Academic All-League squad.
Butler also had junior Gina Vera (International Management) and
sophomore Maggie Harbison (Elementary Education) named to the
volleyball Academic All-League Team.
Butler’s eight selections were the second-most in the
league. Valparaiso led the way with 12 student-athletes
honored, while Loyola and Cleveland State tied for third with seven
players each. Milwaukee had five student-athletes selected,
while Detroit, Green Bay and Wright State each had four.
Youngstown State had three representatives.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal
Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship
sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League
consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point
average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.0 scale) and have completed
at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24
semester hours or 36 quarter hours.
