Butler Places Eight On Academic All-League Squads

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Eight Butler student-athletes, including three men’s basketball players, have been named to the 2010-11 Horizon League Winter Academic All-League Teams, announced by the league office on Tuesday, April 19.  The honored athletes were chosen by a vote of league faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors.

Butler had three of the five athletes chosen to the Men’s Basketball Academic All-League squad.  Headlining that group was senior forward and Academic All-American of the Year Matt Howard, who was named to the league honor squad for the third consecutive year.  Senior Zach Hahn also earned Academic All-League recognition for the third straight year, while junior Ronald Nored was chosen for the first time.

The other two men’s basketball players selected were Tony Meier of Milwaukee and Ben Averkamp of Loyola.

Butler also had three athletes selected to the Men’s Indoor Track and Field Academic All-League Team and two chosen to the Women’s Indoor Track and Field honor squad.  Named to the men’s team were seniors Matt Lawder and Justin Roeder and graduate student Kris Gauson.  Lawder and Gauson both were repeat selections.

Sophomores Katie Clark and Kaitlyn Love each earned selection to the Women’s Indoor Track Academic All-League Team for the first time.
