Nine Butler Athletes Earn Academic All-League Honors
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Nine Butler student-athletes have been
named to the 2012 Horizon League Spring Academic All-League Teams,
released by the league office on Wednesday (June 27). The
nine athletes represent six different Butler teams.
Six of Butler’s nine honorees were repeat selections,
including junior Kaitlyn Love. The Butler distance runner
earned her third Academic All-League certificate this year!
Love was named to the 2011 Horizon League Fall Academic All-League
team as a member of Butler’s league champion cross country
team, and she earned a spot on the 2011-12 Horizon League Winter
Academic All-League Team while competing on Butler’s indoor
track squad.
Love’s teammate, sophomore Shelbi Burnett, picked up a second
certificate this year. She also was named to the Fall
Academic All-League Team as a member of Butler’s cross
country squad.
Other multiple winners were seniors Clare Cornelius and Michelle
Nash of the women’s golf team, senior Lauren McNulty of
Butler’s softball squad and senior Griffin Richeson from the
Butler baseball team. Cornelius, Nash and McNulty each earned
the league honor for a third consecutive year, while Richeson was
tabbed for the second straight year.
Also honored from Butler were junior Chase Byerly (baseball),
junior Andrew Wegeng (men’s golf) and sophomore Mick Wang
(men’s outdoor track and field).
The nine honorees gave Butler 20 Horizon League Academic All-League
certificates in 2011-12.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal
Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship
sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League
consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point
average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed
at least one year at the member institution and have earned 24
semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
