Butler's John Parry Withdraws From UC-Irvine Job Search

Sept. 6, 2002

Butler University director of athletics John Parry has withdrawn his name from consideration for the director of athletics position at the University of California-Irvine. Parry notified officials at the Irvine, Calif., school of his decision on Friday, Sept. 6.

"UC Irvine is a fine university, but as the search progressed I was able to reassess what I value most. Butler and Indianapolis have become home for my family, and professionally the accomplishments of the Butler students and coaches have been very satisfying," Parry stated.

"I plan to remain at Butler, and I'm looking forward to our defense of the Horizon League all-sports trophy."

Parry has served as Butler's director of athletics since February, 1990. During his tenure, Butler athletic teams have won 40 regular season and tournament conference championships and 13 different sports have made 18 NCAA Tournament appearances. Butler has been the all-sports champion of the Horizon League in four of the past six years. Prior to coming to Butler, Parry served as athletic director at Brown University for 11 years.
