Butler Sports Spotlight

*Sophomore quarterback Ian Nelson scored on a one-yard touchdown run with 20 seconds left in the game to give Butler a 48-44 football win over Drake. Nelson passed for 246 yards and one touchdown and added 95 rushing yards in just his third start at quarterback for the Bulldogs.

*Senior running back Dale Jennings rushed for 160 yards and scored four touchdowns in Butler's come-from-behind victory over Drake. Jennings, the leading scorer in the Pioneer Football League, moved into sixth place on Butler's single season scoring chart with 90 points on 15 touchdowns.

*Junior Krista Rott scored three goals, including a pair of game-winners, while helping Butler to back-to-back women's soccer victories. Rott had the lone goal of the match in Butler's 1-0 victory over Illinois State, and then she scored a pair of goals in the Bulldogs' 3-0 win at Valparaiso.

*Senior guard Brandon Miller was named preseason first team All-Horizon League in a poll of league men's basketball coaches, media and sports information directors. Senior center Joel Cornette was picked to the preseason second team all-league squad.

*Junior guard Nancy Bowden was selected preseason second team All-Horizon League in the annual poll of league women's basketball coaches, media and sports information directors.

*Brothers Kevin and Brandon Gill won their first three matches in the doubles' competition at the ITA Men's Tennis Regionals at the University of Wisconsin and advanced to a quarterfinals match against the doubles' tandem from Northwestern to be played on Monday, Oct. 28. The two Butler players defeated teams from Xavier, Eastern Illinois and Illinois in the regional competition.
