When Barry Collier took over as Butler University Athletic Director before the fall 2006 semester, he announced a priority of bringing "more dogs to the pack". Now midway through the second-year of the department's reorganization and a focus on connecting with Bulldogs across the nation, the results are showing.
At the close of the fall semester last week, a total of 1,061 people had become members of the Bulldog Club so far this year. Last year at this time, membership in the Bulldog Club was at 850 and finished the year with 1,524, which was a department record.
"Bulldog Club members have a lot to be proud of," said Collier. "Our student-athletes, coaches and teams are currently overachieving and the people that are supporting the Athletic Department as members of the Bulldog Club are helping give our 19 teams and over 380 student-athletes a better opportunity for success in the future."
With a little more than five months remaining in the 2007-08 year (fiscal year ends on May 31), Bulldog Club membership is on pace to eclipse last year's record total. Focused efforts on former student-athletes and season ticket holders, while working to retain first year members from 2006-07 year has aided the increase thus far. Additional focus and communication about giving at the end of the calendar year has been positive as well.
"We still have a long way to go and we will need help from more and more people if we want to achieve all our goals," said Mike Freeman, Manager of External Operations. "Our outreach has grown this year and it is our hope that means more people have seen the success of the department and want to be a part of it for years to come."
