Tom Orner was a two-time Butler Most Valuable Player and a four-year basketball letterwinner. He was named Indiana Collegiate Conference Player of the Year in 1977-78, the same year that he led the conference in scoring with a 20.8 average. The talented backcourt player currently stands third on Butler's all-time list for free throw shooting with an .848 career percentage, after holding Butler's all-time record for 13 years. He stands fourth on Butler's single season free throw shooting list with a .909 percentage in 1978-79. Orner led the Bulldogs in scoring in 1977-78 and 1978-79, and he finished his career with 1,134 points, good for 22nd place on Butler's all-time scoring list.
