Max Schumacher, a 1954 Butler graduate, has been tabbed "Mr. Baseball" in Indianapolis. He has become the single most influential baseball figure in the city, while serving in a variety of positions with the Indianapolis Indians professional baseball team for more than five decades. The current President and Chairman of the Board of the Indians, Schumacher is a past president of the Indianapolis Downtown Kiwanis Club, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Indianapolis, and he's a past Chairman and President of Junior Baseball, Inc., of Indianapolis. He was a member of the Butler baseball team as an undergraduate, playing for legendary coach Paul D. "Tony" Hinkle.
