Butler will play the first of three Indiana opponents on its 2009-10 schedule when it travels to Evansville for a non-league contest on Saturday, Nov. 21. Trio Of Bulldogs Named All-Horizon League

A trio of Butler volleyball players have been named All-Horizon League, according to a vote by the league’s nine head coaches. Junior Jessica Wolfe and senior Porshia Allen were named to the 14-member all-league team, while freshman Gina Vera was voted to the all-newcomer team. Read Full Release [+]

Conner Burt Named To Academic All-America Team
Butler junior defender Conner Burt, who has excelled on the field and in the classroom, has been named first team on the 2009 ESPN The Magazine University Division Academic All-America Team, chosen by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). He was one of 12 players selected to the national honor squad.

Butler Rolls Past Northwestern, 67-54
Shelvin Mack scored a team-high 15 points and added eight assists and Gordon Hayward chipped in with 14 points and 10 rebounds to help lead visiting Butler to a 67-54 victory over Northwestern in a non-league test at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Wednesday (Nov. 18). It was the second straight win for the No. 10/11 ranked Bulldogs to open the season.

Lester's Double-Double Keys 65-57 Win
After being honored for a career achievement during warm-ups, senior forward Susan Lester gave a strong single-game performance of 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Butler women’s basketball team to a 65-57 win over IPFW.

Butler Earns No. 12 Seed In NCAA Soccer Championship
Butler’s successful men’s soccer season will continue. The Bulldogs received the No. 12 seed and a first-round bye in the 2009 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship, which begins at host sites on Thursday, Nov. 19. The 48-team field was announced on Monday, Nov. 16.

Bulldogs Visit Big Ten’s Northwestern
Butler will meet the first of three Big Ten teams on its pre-Christmas schedule when travels to Evanston, Ill., to take on Northwestern on Wednesday, Nov. 18. The non-league game is slated for 7 p.m. (CT, 8 p.m. in Indianapolis) at Northwestern’s Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Bulldog Volleyball Ready For League Tournament
The Butler volleyball team will travel to Cleveland for the Horizon League Volleyball Championship this weekend. The Bulldogs, the No. 4 seed, will take on UIC in the quarterfinal Friday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. The lowest seed remaining will play regular season champion Cleveland State Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Butler women’s basketball team travels to Saint Louis Saturday, Nov. 21 for a 3 p.m. ET contest at SLU’s new Chafeitz Arena. The Bulldogs are coming off a 65-57 win on Wednesday and can go over .500 for the first time this season.

The Butler women’s basketball team will host IPFW Wednesday, Nov. 18 in what will be the Bulldogs’ home opener. Butler has defeated IPFW in four of the last five meetings, including a 72-56 win last year in Fort Wayne. BU is aiming to rebound after a season-opening loss at Kentucky on Sunday (Nov. 15).

Butler Opens Season With 1-0 Loss At Western Kentucky
Western Kentucky’s Megan Meinke scored in the 45th minute to give the Butler women’s soccer team a 1-0 loss in its season opener Friday afternoon. Meinke’s game-winning goal, a strike from the left side just outside the box, came at 44:35.

Horizon League Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) visits Riley Children’s Hospital
Fourteen members of the Horizon League’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee visited Riley Children’s Hospital on Friday, July 31. The community outreach opportunity included guest speakers, a video session and tour of the hospital.

Butler's Hayward creates buzz at 19-and-under national team trials
Butler's Gordon Hayward, who was selected for USA Basketball's 19-and-under national team Thursday, was first featured in the sporting press four years ago. A story in a regional section of the Indianapolis Star profiled Gordon and his twin sister, Heather, who were playing mixed doubles in the Indiana State Open. They were precocious prep tennis stars. She had already played No. 1 singles as a freshman at Brownsburg High; he played No. 1 doubles then, and No. 1 singles the next year. The paper said the twins planned on going to Purdue, their parents' alma mater.

Former Butler men's soccer players are invited back to campus to enjoy a weekend of Homecoming activities, including an Alumni Game on Saturday, Oct. 25. The match between two teams of Butler alums will be held at Varsity Field, beginning at 10 a.m.

Softball, Soccer Players Spark Kids' Interest in Books
It might have looked like a huddle, but reading a story and having fun was the game plan, when outfielder Jenny Jacobs of Indianapolis gathered her "team" of youngsters around her during the Jan. 12 Readers' Day in Hinkle Fieldhouse. A senior member of Butler's softball team, Jacobs read the children's book Click, Clack Moo during a family literacy fair, staged before the Butler men's basketball game against Milwaukee.
