Bronx, N.Y. – The Butler men's team finished third at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships Friday morning at the historic Van Cortlandt Park.
Redshirt freshman
Euan Makepeace paced the Bulldogs with a third-place finish. He covered the 8k course in 24:32.90.
Four other Bulldogs placed in the top-20.
Bobby Johnson (25:14.30) finished 14
th, while teammates
Jacob Priddey (25:16.10),
Matt Lumbar (25:19.60) and
Johnny Leverenz (25:25.40) were right behind placing 15
th, 17
th and 20
th, respectively.
Evan Johnson (24
th, 25:38.20) and
Jonathan Collier (26
th, 25:42.70) were just outside Butler's scoring five, but had impressive performances.
Jacob Robleski,
Keigan Culler and
Michael Carey also ran for Butler in the 83 runner field, placing 35
th, 37
th and 53
rd, respectively.
Finishing ahead of the Bulldogs in the nine-team field were No. 23 Georgetown and the Providence Friars. Butler's team score of 69 was just behind Providence's 65 for second place. The Bulldogs defeated Villanova, which featured individual champion Patrick Tiernan, for the first time since joining the BIG EAST in 2013.
Up next for Butler is the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, which will be held in Madison, Wis., on Nov. 11.
