IOWA CITY – The Bulldogs finished the Hawkeye Classic with a 2-2 record after defeating the Western Illinois Leathernecks 3-0 on Saturday evening (25-9, 25-14, 25-16). The victory also moves the team's overall record to .500 at 4-4.
Anna Logan recorded a match-high 21 kills against WIU, posting a .613 attack percentage. She nearly equaled the Leathernecks total kill count of 23.
Makayla Ferguson just missed a double-double with 34 assists and eight digs. Logan,
Christina Porada and
Brooke Gregory all added seven digs each.
Butler set the tone in the opener by ending the game on a 16-1 scoring run to take the 1-0 lead. The 'Dawgs never trailed in the second set as they cruised to a 25-14 win. The second set was close at 10-8 before a lengthy BU scoring run gave Butler the 2-0 edge.
The third set was never in question as Butler clinched the shutout with a 25-16 win. BU doubled up WIU 14-7 at the midway point and the Leathernecks would never get any closer.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at Ball State. First serve is scheduled for 7 PM. The game can be streamed live on WatchESPN and the ESPN app (ESPN 3).
