OMAHA – The Butler women's soccer team knocked off the Creighton Bluejays on Thursday night by the final score of 3-0. The shutout win moves Butler's overall record to 11-1-4 and 4-0-3 in the BIG EAST.
Caitlyn DiSarcina gave BU a 1-0 lead in the first half and a pair of second half goals from
Paige Monaghan would seal the road win for the Bulldogs.
DiSarcina was in the right place at the right time to put Butler out in front 1-0.
Breann Pempek took a shot from the middle of the field and that attempt was deflected by a Bluejay defender. As a result, the ball would roll to the left side after the deflection where DiSarcina would gain possession and connect on her seventh goal of the season.
Butler outshot Creighton 13-1 in the first 45 minutes of action and therefore would enjoy a 1-0 lead at the break.
The second half belonged to Monaghan who put away two shots on goal to give BU the 3-0 win. Monaghan's first goal of the game came on a Creighton miscue.
Leonie Doege sent a ball deep into Creighton territory and a Bluejay defender attempted to play the ball back to the keeper. Monaghan intercepted the ball and put BU up 2-0 with her sixth goal of the season.
Just two minutes later, Monaghan would score her second goal of the game off an assist from senior
Brenna Pawelkowski. Monaghan took a pass from the middle of the field and would dribble the ball up the left side. She stopped her momentum and moved back towards the middle of the field to fire a shot past the Creighton keeper.
The 3-0 victory was huge in the BIG EAST standings as Butler earned three points to clinch a spot in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament. The Bulldogs will return to action on Sunday with a big-time matchup against Georgetown.
