Sophomore
Patrick Allgeier shot the round of the day Tuesday at the Butler Fall Invitational, posting a three-under 67 to jump into fifth place individually.
Allgeier finished the 54-hole event with a three-round score of 215 (+5) after shooting 74-74 on Monday.
Butler finished third in the team competition as the Bulldogs' 283 on Tuesday tied team champion Indianapolis for the best round of the day. The Bulldogs shot 294-300 on Monday and finished the event at 877.
Indianapolis shot 860 over the three rounds, which was 10 shots better than Evansville (870), which placed second. Butler was six shots better than IUPUI (883) after the teams entered the final round tied. Marian (897), Vincennes (919), and Chicago State (929) rounded out the seven-team field.
Michael Cascino shot a one-over 71 Tuesday to finish at 216 (+6) for the tournament. He placed sixth individually after rounds of 74-71 Monday. He was one of four newcomers in the Butler five for the event, as
Augie Hartnagel (221, +11; T12),
Logan Sabins (225, +15; 20
th) and
Spencer Fairbanks (231, +21; T34) rounded out the scoring five.
Evansville's Tyler Gray won the event at six-under 204. He was two strokes better than Indianapolis's Graham McAree. Gray's 68 on Tuesday was one shot behind Allgeier.
Butler had six individuals in the field for the home event at Highland Golf and Country Club. Junior
Gehrig Hollatz led that group with a nine-over 219 (74-74-71). He finished tied for eighth. Hollatz had 10 birdies during the tournament, the fifth-best total in the field.
Zack Carrabine tied for 12
th (221, +11) and
Michael Denner shot 222 (+12) to tie for 15
th.
Eric Smitson (226; 21
st),
Nick Williams (235; T40) and
Hunter Byram (241; T47) also played as individuals.
The Highland course was set up as a par-70, 6,551-yard loop for the event.
The Bulldogs return to action Oct. 29, traveling to Estero, Fla., for the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational. It is Butler's final competition of the spring semester.
