CHARLESTON – The Butler swim team posted two wins over the weekend by defeating Eastern Illinois and Western Illinois in Charleston. Butler scored 180.5 points against Eastern Illinois and 163 against Western Illinois to record wins. Sophomore
Grace Grzybek was tabbed "Swimmer of the Meet" by head coach
Maurice Stewart.
"We showed up on a mission to swim fast and come away with two wins," Stewart explained. "We posted some strong performances, and raced well to earn these wins against two solid teams today."
The 200 medley relay team of Grzybek,
Emma Spotts,
Annah Van Gheem and
Tori Horton recorded one of the fastest regular season times in recent history. They took first place with a time of 1:50.88, which was two seconds faster than the Double Dual meet back on Oct. 1.
Grzybek added two more first place finishes to her day by winning the 100 Back and the 200 Back. In the 100, Grzybek posted a BIG EAST Qualifying time of 59.32.
Sofia Camarillo placed sixth (1:04.34) and
Meg McIlvenna touched the wall at 1:05.48 for eighth.
In the 200 Back, Grzybek won with a time of 2:09.33. Teammate
Megan Hanson also notched a BIG EAST Qualifying Time with her third place finish of 2:13.13.
Sadie Texer also swam in the 200 with a time of 2:16.93. She finished the race in fourth place.
The 1000 Free event was highlighted by
Olivia Allen who took first place with a time of 11:01.44. Teammate
Andee Bauer finished second (11:09.52) and
Madison Schluchterer placed fourth (11:33.60).
Allen also led the Bulldogs in the 400 IM with a first place finish. Her time of 4:43.93 went down as a BIG EAST Qualifying Time.
Alexis Faith and
Emily Motill also competed in the 400 IM. Faith placed fourth with a time of 4:58.54. Motill took sixth place (5:08.65).
The 200 Free had three Bulldogs finish in the top six.
Megan Hanson placed second with a BIG EAST Qualifying Time of 1:59.55.
Emma Harris posted a time of 2:02.14, which led to a tie for third place.
Carolyn McGrail placed sixth (2:04.26).
Emma Spotts earned second place in the 100 Breast. Her time of 1:06.94 qualifies for the BIG EAST and is tied for the fifth fastest 100 Breast time in school history.
Sydney Gurry finished third with a time of 1:09.52, which qualifies for the BIG EAST.
Carson Middlebrook earned a fourth place finish, after posting a time of 1:11.62.
Three Bulldogs placed in the top four in the 200 Fly.
Alexis Faith led the team placing second with a time of 2:15.80. Third and fourth place were both Bulldogs.
Emma Harris (third) and
Annah Van Gheem (fourth) rounded out the Bulldog trio with times of, 2:16.28 and 2:19.19 respectively.
Emma Spotts continued her impressive day finishing second in the 50 Free with a time of 25.47.
Tori Horton posted a time of 25.63, earning fourth place.
Harriet Davies competed in her first meet of the season. Davies placed sixth after swimming the event in 26.01.
Tori Horton earned a second place finish in the 100 Free, with a time of 55.16.
Harriet Davies added on to her impressive season debut, by finishing sixth with a time of 56.49.
Emma Spotts and
Olivia Allen earned BIG EAST Qualifying Times in the 200 Breast. Spotts placed second after posting a time of 2:27.81 and Allen placed third with a time of 2:29.23. Both times placed Spotts and Allen in the Butler record books. Spotts has the fourth best 200 Breast time in school history, while Allen is seventh-best.
Andee Bauer won the 500 Free, with a time of 5:26.53.
Emma Harris placed second after finishing in 5:26.77. Rounding out the Bulldogs was
Madison Schluchterer. Schluchterer posted a time of 5:40.20 which earned fifth place.
A trio of Bulldogs placed consecutively in the 100 Fly.
Alexis Faith finished fourth, with a time of 1:01.67.
Megan Rush placed fifth (1:02.29) and
Annah Van Gheem placed sixth (1:02.33).
The Bulldogs earned a first place finish in the 400 Free Relay. The victory was in the final women's event of the day.
Megan Hanson (55.96),
Harriet Davies (55.51),
Abbie Linek (54.75), and
Tori Horton (54.18) combined for a 3:40.40 finish.
"I was impressed to see our team put up a Dawg Fight until the very end by winning the 400 Free Relay to solidify our two wins today," Coach Stewart added.
