Matt Lumbar and
Barry Keane finished in the top 20 for the Bulldogs at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday. Lumbar paced the Bulldogs, finishing the 8k course in 11
th with a time of 31:17.2. Keane followed just seconds later finishing 12
th with a time of 31:19.2. Both men have the potential to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships next weekend in Louisville, Ky. The at-large bids will be announced later this weekend.
"I recruited Matt because we needed toughness in our program. Matt is not the most physically gifted guy out there, but you won't find a tougher, more prepared guy on the course. He is an exceptional competitor and he knows how to flat out grind," Coach
Matt Roe said of Lumbar.
"As a coach, there is nothing better than watching a veteran athlete in top form. Matt was on fire today. He never ceases to inspire those around him."
Keane, a freshman, was the top freshman finisher.
"For the second year in a row we have had the top freshman in the region. Barry has improved with every race and today he showed up big for us. I am so pleased to be working with him. We have a bright future with Barry in our lineup." Coach Roe said.
Both Lumbar and Keane earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors after their performance on Friday.

"The men were inspiring today. It would have been easy to pack it in without our leader racing. They used the adversity as fuel," Coach Roe said.
"One through four we looked like an NCAA qualifying team. Optimism abounds in this group and the future is bright."
Ben Flanagan of Michigan won the individual event with a time of 30:54.0. Hlynur Andresson from Eastern Michigan finished second with a time for 31:00.1. Oliver Hoare of Wisconsin rounded out the top three with a time of 31:00.9.
As a team, the Butler men finished 7
th behind in-state foes Indiana (6
th) and Purdue (5
th). Michigan State won the team event, followed by Michigan and Wisconsin respectively. Eastern Michigan rounded out the top-four teams.
The Butler women finished 20
th in the team event.
Josephine Thestrup was the first finisher for the Bulldogs, finishing 38
th with a time of 21:24.6. Agelina Ellis was the second finisher for the Bulldogs, finishing 96
th with a time of 22:24.1.

"Based on our youth, we were hoping to finish around where we did today. The effort, competitiveness, and unity are improving with each race," Coach Roe said.
"With more time, training, and additional personnel, we are going to continue to build into a stronger team."
Katherine Receveur of Indiana won the individual event with a time of 20:34.9. Followed by two Michigan Wolverines, Gina Sereno (20:38.9) and Jamie Morrissey (20:39.5), finishing second and third respectively.
The Wolverines won the team event followed by Michigan State and Wisconsin. Eastern Michigan rounded out the top four. This is Michigan's third-straight victory at the Great Lakes Regional.
Teams and runners that qualified out of the NCAA Regionals for the NCAA Championships will travel to Louisville, Ky., for the event on Nov. 18.
