Butler earned its second consecutive berth in the NCAA Tournament as the bracket was announced Monday, Nov. 13.
The Bulldogs, regular season champions of the BIG EAST, will host a first-round match on Thursday (Nov. 16) at the Sellick Bowl. Their opponent is Lipscomb, the champions of the Atlantic Sun.
Butler enters the NCAA Tournament with a 12-4-2 record, which included an 8-1 mark in BIG EAST play. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 14 in the final NCAA RPI standings.
The winner of Thursday's match will travel to VCU for a Sunday match with the No. 16 overall seed. VCU receives an opening round bye.
Butler's NCAA Tournament berth is the eighth in program history and the second at-large selection.
Lipscomb has an overall record of 11-7-2. After going 2-4 in the Atlantic Sun's regular season, the team made a run to the tournament championship and the Atlantic Sun's automatic bid. This is the first NCAA Tournament appearance for Lipscomb.
Butler and Lipscomb have three common opponents on their respective 2017 schedules: Evansville, SIUE and South Florida. Both teams defeated Evansville, while Butler beat South Florida and lost to SIUE. The Bison lost to South Florida but topped SIUE.
Thursday's match at the Sellick Bowl will start at 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Butler Bulldogs Facebook page.
