@ButlerUFootball’s Bevelhimer Named Fred Mitchell Award Finalist

Sophomore Drew Bevelhimer has been named a finalist for the Fred Mitchell Award. The winner will be announced on Dec. 11.

The award recognizes placekickers for their success on the football field during the 2017 season and also for their continued community service throughout the year. The finalist list includes six FCS athletes, six Division II athletes and one Division III athlete.

Bevelhimer has been Butler's kicker for each game of his collegiate career and has scored 128 points throughout his two seasons. He made five of seven attempts at more than 40 yards this season, including a season-long 46-yarder.

Off the field, Bevelhimer has found just as much success helping others. This season, he coordinated the "signing" of 8-year-old Robert Shaffer, who has a rare kidney disease. Shaffer has been on the sideline throughout the season and even has his own locker at Butler's facility.

Over the summer, Bevelhimer traveled to the Czech Republic with several Butler Football teammates where he helped teach football and everyday life skills to young children in the region.

The award is named after Fred Mitchell, the record-setting placekicker and member of the Wittenberg University Athletic Hall of Fame. The school of the winner receives scholarship funds and is presented with the Fred Mitchell Award Trophy.
