The Butler women's lacrosse team features 23 new faces this spring, over half of their 2018 41-player roster. Of the 23 newcomers, there are eight defenders, seven attackers, seven midfielders and one goalie. The Bulldogs will enter their second season of BIG EAST play this spring after finishing their inaugural season in the spring of 2017.
"I am very excited to welcome this large class to Butler to continue to lay a strong foundation for our new lacrosse program," said Head Coach Cecil Pilson. "They have come from all over the country and have prepared to compete at this level of play. I anticipate that they will all make a contribution to our program, both on and off of the field."
Morgan Paige: Attack/Midfield (Carthage, N.Y./Carthage)
Paige spent three years as a varsity starter during which she advanced to 11th place in school history with 157 career points. She recorded 56 goals, had 29 assists, 85 points and 51 draw controls in her senior season, which resulted in a First Team All-Star selection.
Grace Clarke: Attack (Winnetka, Ill./Loyola)
Clarke spent two years on the Loyola Academy varsity team, assuming a starting role her senior year. She helped the team achieve a record of 29-2, which included a state championship title. Clarke was named to the All-State team in 2017 after scoring 39 goals and recording seven assists.
Kylie Murphy: Attack (New Canaan, Conn./Westminster School)
Murphy spent two years as a varsity starter at New Canaan High School before spending a post-graduate year at Westminster School in 2017. At New Canaan, she helped lead the team to back-to-back state championship titles in 2015 and 2016. She was named to the All FCIAC First Team in 2015 and 2016 and was elected team captain in 2016.
Kasey Diodati: Attack (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional)
Diodati was a four-year varsity starter at Clearview Regional High School and named First Team All-Conference her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Diodati was also named an All-American for her success at Clearview Regional and named to the Second Team All-South Jersey in 2016 and 2017. Diodati was also named team captain and team MVP in 2017 and was a four-year Gloucester County Champion.
Alex Sadzewicz: Attack (Fulton, Md./Reservoir)
Sadzweciz spent all four years as a varsity starter at Reservoir High School during which she led her team in goals and points. During her senior season, she recorded 36 goals and 10 assists.
Ashley Guerra: Attack (Ionia, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima)
Guerra spent three years as a varsity starter for Honeoye Falls-Lima High School but was injured her senior season. Her team won the sectional championship all three years of her career and advanced to the state finals twice. Guerra had a career-best 10 goals and four assists her junior season which resulted in being named team captain at the start of her senior season.
Madeline Hooks: Attack (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mater Dei)
Hooks spent four years as a varsity starter and was named the Offensive MVP in 2016 and 2017. The attacker led her team to Southern Section Championship victories in 2016 and 2017. She was named a US Lacrosse All-American her senior season for recording an impressive 38 goals and 68 assists.
Lexie Armstrong: Defense (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls)
Armstrong was a four-year varsity starter at Columbus School for Girls. During the 2017 season, she recorded two assists, nine goals, seven ground balls and seven turnovers. She was named the team MVP and a member of the second-team All-Catholic League three times.
Emily Chironna: Defense (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman)
Chironna spent four years at the varsity level during which her team was named conference champions each year. She helped her team win the first state championship in school history in 2015 and led her team to a state runner-up finish in 2016. She was named to the All-Conference Team each year and was named team captain in 2016 and 2017. During her freshman season, she was named team defensive MVP. In her senior season, she recorded 36 goals, 43 ground balls, 26 draw controls and 11 assists.
Kayla Bartl: Defense (Furlong, Pa./Central Bucks)
Bartl was a three-year starter at Central Bucks High School East and helped her team achieve a record of 12-7. During her high school career, she scored one goal and picked up 24 ground balls. She was also awarded the Suburban One All-League Honorable Mention for defense in 2017.
Lindsey McShea: Defense (Wayne, Pa./Radnor)
McShea helped her team post an overall record of 16-7 in two seasons, including winning the PIAA State Championship in 2017 and state runner-up in 2016. She caused 11 turnovers and grabbed 28 ground balls her senior season. The defender was named an honorable mention All-League selection at Radnor High School.
Grace Lagoner: Defense (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas)
Lagoner spent two years as a varsity starter during which she was named to the All-County and All-American Tournament team. She scored a career-high two goals in the 2017 season and one goal her junior season.
Addie Gorgoni: Defense (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manilus)
Gorgoni was a varsity member for three seasons during which she helped her team become Section 3 champions and advance to the state championship finals. She was also named a team captain her senior season.
Mary Larson: Defense (Lisle, Ill./Montini Catholic)
Larson was a four-year varsity starter at Montini Catholic High School and was named team captain each year. The star defender was named to the US Lacrosse All-Academic Team in 2016 and 2017 for her work on and off the field. During her senior season, she racked up 28 ground balls, 21 caused turnovers, 10 interceptions and 30 draw controls. Larson was named Honorable State Mention in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and also received the Illinois State Scholar award.
Jaden Bertuzzi: Defense (Birmingham, Mich./Cranbrook-Kingswood)
Bertuzzi was named a team captain during her three-year career as a varsity starter. She helped lead Cranbrook-Kingswood High School to their first ever state championship in program history.
Amanda Rumsey: Goalie (Millersville, Md./Severna Park)
Rumsey spent two years as a varsity starter for Severna Park High School during which she was named an All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2016 and Second Team All-County in 2017. Rumsey led her team to a state finals runner-up finish in 2017. During her time at Severna Park, Rumsey accumulated an impressive 195 career saves, which included 120 saves during the 2017 season.
Sydney Allen: Midfield/Defense (Clearwater, Fla./Berkeley Preparatory School)
Allen spent three years at the varsity level at Berkeley Prep where she was named team captain and MVP her junior and senior seasons. She recorded 30 goals, 12 assists and 28 ground balls her senior year and was a member of the First Team All-Conference Team for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Allen was also recognized for her work off the field and was named an Academic All-American.
Ashley Steffes: Midfield (Farmington, Mich./Farmington)
Steffes spent five years at the varsity level at Farmington High School during which she set the school record for goals (146), assists (106), points (252), and draw controls (198). She was named to the All-Conference Team her freshman through senior seasons and the All-State Team her junior and senior seasons. Steffes was named team captain in 2016 and 2017 and received the team MVP award her senior season.
Karina Latsko: Midfield (Cranberry Twp., Penn./Seneca Valley)
Latsko played at the varsity level all four years at Seneca Valley. During her senior season, she recorded 95 goals, 30 assists, 11 interceptions and 83 ground balls. She was named team MVP and captain her junior and senior season and led the team in every major statistical category in 2017. Latsko also holds the Seneca Valley record for goals with 194. During her senior season, Latsko was named a US Lacrosse All-American and earned a spot on the All-Conference Team.
Elizabeth Davide: Midfield (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson)
Davide was a four-year starter at Jackson High School during which she helped lead her team to an overall record of 72-8. She recorded 44 goals, 14 assists, 47 ground balls and 75 draw controls her senior season which resulted in being named First Team All-District, First Team All-Region, and First Team All-State. In 2017, she was also named to the US Lacrosse All-American Team. Davide helped lead her team to a state runner-up finish in 2016 and 2017. Off the field, Davide received the Academic All-Ohio award all four years of her varsity career.
Carly Ross: Midfield (Medina, Ohio/Medina)
Ross spent all four seasons at the varsity level during which her team reached the state finals in the 2014 and 2015 seasons. She was named to the First Team All-State team her junior season. Ross helped lead her team to back-to-back conference championships in 2016 and 2017.
Isabella Mandli: Midfield (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay)
Mandli was a varsity starter all four years at Whitefish Bay High School and is the all-time leading goal scorer. She recorded 52 goals and 23 assists in her senior season and led her team to a conference championship. During her junior and senior seasons, Mandli was named team captain and led her team to back-to-back state appearances. Mandli was named to the All-American team her junior season and named to the First Team All-State team twice throughout her high school career.
Katelyn Murphy: Midfield (Ocoee, Fla./Ocoee)
Throughout her four years as a varsity starter, Murphy was able to accumulate an impressive 301 career goals which put her atop the all-time scoring list in school history. During her senior season, she recorded 100 goals and 19 assists. Murphy led the team in scoring all four years which resulted in being named a four-time team MVP.
