The Bulldogs are in Staten Island, N.Y., for this weekend's BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Twenty-three men and 16 women will represent Butler at the championships, which run Friday and Saturday.

The 2017 championships will be held at the new state-of-the-art Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex, which opened in mid-November 2015. The 135,000 square-foot Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex features a 200-meter Mondo track with eight lanes, six of which can be hydraulically banked up to a 4.5 foot incline for elite competition. Additional field space is designated for two long jump pits, one pole vault, a high jump, and two weight throwing areas.  The complex can seat 2,500 spectators and has commanding views of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and even the Freedom Tower in lower Manhattan.

The Bulldogs will be led by Erik Peterson on the men's side. In recent weeks, he has set Butler records in both the 3k and 5k, the two events he is entered in at this weekend's championships. Bobby Johnson and Jacob Priddey will join Peterson in that double, while Jonathan Collier will run the 3,000 meters and Matt Lumbar will run the 5,000 meters.

Johnny Leverenz is among the favorites in the 800 meters. Leverenz is also slated for two relays.

Tim Vestuto and Jake Kellersohn will run the 60 meters and 200 meters for the Bulldogs.

In the field, Dakota Thompson will look for another BIG EAST championship in the high jump, while Sam Robinson will compete in the high jump, long jump and triple jump.

On the women's side, Olivia Anderson will run the mile, which she recently set the Butler school record in, along with the 800 meters. Josephine Thestrup will join her in the mil. Allie Vogeler will run the 400 meters for the Bulldogs. That trio of runners will join Colleen Weatherford in the distance medley.

Olivia Pratt will run the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters.
