Bracket Set for 2017 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Tournament

Bracket

NEW YORK –
The final day of the BIG EAST women's basketball regular season was a dramatic one as six postseason seeds were solidified and a pair of regular-season champions were crowned. Following Sunday afternoon wins, No. 19/18 DePaul and RV/25 Creighton were tabbed BIG EAST regular-season co-champions, both finishing with matching 16-2 league records. The 2017 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Tournament presented by Jeep is set for March 4-7 on the campus of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., and the Blue Demons will be the No. 1 seed while the Bluejays will be No. 2 by way of DePaul's 2016-17 series win over Creighton. The host Golden Eagles are the No. 3 seed.

No. 19/18 DePaul topped Georgetown on Sunday to clinch at least a share of the BIG EAST regular-season title for the fourth consecutive year. The Blue Demons' Class of 2017 becomes the first senior class to claim regular-season crowns every year since Connecticut's Class of 2011, and the 11th senior class to win four-straight BIG EAST trophies overall (UConn 1997-2004; 2010-11). With a win at Butler on Sunday, RV/25 Creighton shares the BIG EAST regular-season title for the first time since joining the league prior to the 2013-14 campaign. DePaul earns the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament by way of its season sweep of Creighton, claiming the top seed for the third time, while the Bluejays' No. 2 seed is its highest in conference history.

No. 2 seed Creighton will face the winner of 10th-seeded Butler and seventh-seeded Xavier in Sunday's first Quarterfinal matchup slated for noon (CT). The Bulldogs and Musketeers tip off in the BIG EAST Tournament First Round on Saturday, March 4, at 4 p.m. (CT). Saturday's second First Round tilt pits No. 8 seed Seton Hall against No. 9 seed Providence at 6:30 p.m. The winner of that matchup earns a showdown with top-seeded DePaul on Sunday at 6 p.m. Xavier, Providence and Seton Hall all finished tied for seventh with 4-14 marks, with the Musketeers benefitting from a 3-1 record against the Friars and Pirates to clinch the seventh seed, followed by The Hall's 2-2 mini-conference record for eighth, and PC at ninth at 1-3.

The remaining two BIG EAST Quarterfinal matchups were solidified following this past Friday's games, with host and third-seeded Marquette facing No. 6 seed Georgetown at 2:30 p.m. CT, and No. 4 seed Villanova and No. 5 seed St. John's slotted for the nightcap at 8:30 p.m. The Wildcats and Red Storm, reigning tournament champs, tied for fourth in the standings, but Villanova swept the season series with St. John's to gain the seeding advantage.

First Round games will stream live on the BIG EAST Digital Network before FS2 picks up coverage for Sunday's Quarterfinals. FS1 takes over for Monday's Semifinals, set for 3 and 5:30 p.m. CT, along with Tuesday's final at 8 p.m. CT.
