Junior
Kelan Martin led Butler to a pair of impressive road wins last week, averaging 23.5 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Bulldogs won at No. 2 Villanova and at Xavier. For his efforts, he has been selected as the BIG EAST Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday, Feb. 27.
Â
This is Martin's second Player of the Week honor this season, joining a Dec. 19 recognition following his 28 points in the win over Indiana at the Crossroads Classic. Martin also won the weekly accolade twice last season as a sophomore.
Â
Freshman
Kamar Baldwin was also named to the league's five-member Honor Roll this week.
Â
In Wednesday's win at Villanova, Martin keyed a decisive 18-0 run with nine points in that stretch en route to 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting. He added a game-high eight rebounds. In Sunday's win at Xavier, Martin posted game-bests with 25 points and seven rebounds. Martin shot 62 percent from the field last week and made 6-of-12 from behind the arc.
Â
The 25 points Sunday were his high for a BIG EAST game this season.
Â
Martin has 10 20-point games this season. He is in the top 10 in both scoring and rebounding in the BIG EAST. In conference games only, he is second in rebounding. Martin leads the Bulldogs at 16.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Â
The Bulldogs have a week off before the regular season finale, which is a Saturday home game against Seton Hall. The 2:30 p.m. tip will air nationally on FOX. A Senior Day recognition for the team's six seniors will follow the game.
