NEW YORK –
Tori Schickel and
Sydney Shelton earned regular season BIG EAST honors on Wednesday as the conference office announced award winners for the 2016-17 season. A vote from the leagues' head coaches determined the outcome which included Schickel as a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection and Shelton as a member of the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team.

The top honor went to DePaul's Brooke Schulte who was crowned BIG EAST Player of the Year. Schulte doubled up and was also named Co-Most Improved Player along with Brianna Rollerson of Creighton. DePaul also picked up hardware with Doug Bruno earning Coach of the Year and Tanita Allen claiming the Sixth-Woman Award. Freshman of the Year went to Jalyn Agnew of Creighton and the Defensive Player of the Year award was split between Jacqui Grant (DePaul) and Aaliyah Lewis (St. John's).

Schickel landed on the All-BIG EAST Second Team after averaging 14.5 points and 11.8 rebounds per game during the regular season. The only BIG EAST player to average a double-double this season, Schickel was also the only Bulldog to start in all 29 games while averaging 35.2 minutes per game.

The sophomore forward set the Butler school record for most rebounds recorded in a single-season. She heads into the conference tournament with 341 boards, breaking the old record of 302 rebounds which was set by Beth Piepenbrink during the 1981-82 season. Regular season highlights also include posting 20 points and 20 rebounds at Xavier and going off for 28 points and 20 rebounds vs. Villanova. She led the team in scoring 14 times and was the team's leading rebounder in every contest this season.
