DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Butler baseball team scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull off a 4-3 comeback win on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs are now 6-4 overall.
The top of the order was huge in the outcome for Butler with the top four batters combining for eight of Butler's 10 hits on the day.
Tyler Houston went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
Chris Maranto and
Jordan Lucio each had two hits and Hartnagel impacted the game with a hit and an RBI sac fly in the ninth.
The Bulldogs led off the ninth inning with back-to-back singles from Maranto and Houston. A fielding error by Bucknell would load the bases the no outs. Hartnagel would drive a ball into deep left field allowing Maranto to tag up and score. The second out would come off a Bison strikeout, but a second costly error would keep BU alive as
Gehrig Parker reached on a miscue by the Bucknell second baseman. Houston scored the unearned run on the play.
Bucknell ended the game with five errors. They scored the first run of the game in the first inning and added single runs in the fourth and seventh. Butler got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning after an RBI single from Houston. Their second run of the game was scored in the fifth.
Ryan Pepiot got the start and tossed the first six innings of the game for Butler. He only walked two batters while striking out eight. The win went to
Josh Goldberg who came in from the bullpen to throw 2.1 innings of action. The save would be picked up by
Chris Myjak, his third of the season.
The Bulldogs will return to Wilson Field tomorrow to face Davidson. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 PM.
