CLINTON, S.C. – The Blue Hose knocked off the Bulldogs on Tuesday afternoon after scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Butler (6-6) came up with five runs off five hits at the PC Baseball Complex, but Presbyterian collected 10 hits to pick up the 7-5 victory.
Presbyterian (7-7) opened up the scoring in the fourth inning by pushing three runs across home plate off four hits. Their lead increased to 4-0 after five complete innings.
The Bulldogs would hit their stride in the sixth inning by scoring three runs even though they did not record a hit.
Connor Dall and
Zach Jarosz each reached base on balls to lead off the inning and
Chris Maranto would lay down a sac bunt to advance each runner. Presbyterian would make a pitching change after the first out, but the results would stay the same.
Tyler Houston walked to load the bases and
Jordan Lucio took first base after four balls to put BU on the scoreboard.
Hartnagel entered the batter's box after Lucio and hit a ground ball to short. Lucio was out on the force play at second, but Houston and Jarosz would come around to score. The inning would end during the next at-bat with
Gehrig Parker lining out to the second baseman.
Momentum stayed with Butler in the seventh as the 'Dawgs took a slim 5-4 lead after
Duncan Hewitt and
Sam Russo scored. Hewitt walked to lead off the inning and moved into scoring position after a wild pitch. Russo followed in the order and also reached base after seeing four balls and Presbyterian would make a pitching change with two on and no out.
Dall came to the plate and laid down a perfect bunt that would load the bases. The new arm on the mound for Presbyterian would recover however by getting a double play ball 4-6-3. Hewitt scored on the play and BU would get another run after an RBI single from Maranto.
The lead wouldn't hold as the home team scored three in the bottom half of seven to pull out the 7-5 victory. Priaulx delivered an RBI single and Guimbarda doubled down the line to pick up 2 RBI leading the Blue Hose to victory.
11 different players touched the rubber on Tuesday afternoon with Dean earning the win and
Josh Goldberg taking the loss.
Garrett Christman got the start for BU and tossed the first four innings of the game. Kyzar was the starter for the Blue Hose and pitched 5.1 innings of action. The save went to Hedrick who tossed the ninth.
Hewitt got the start at DH for Butler and led the team with two hits. RBIs went to Maranto, Lucio and Hartnagel.
Butler will return to action tomorrow with a 2 PM game at Furman. The home opener is slated for this weekend with BU hosting a three-game series against Fort Wayne.
