@ButlerUBaseball Wins at Furman 10-7

Box Score

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Bulldogs came up with 17 hits at Furman on Wednesday afternoon to post a 10-7 victory at Latham Stadium. Michael Hartnagel led the charge by going 5-for-5 from the plate with three RBI and a run scored. The win went to River Pitlock who made his season debut out of the BU bullpen.

The top of the order for Butler (7-6) was instrumental in the outcome today with Hartnagel, Garrett Christman, Tyler Houston and Zach Jarosz combining for 12 hits. Furman (8-4) was led by Costa who went 2-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored. Costa hit two home runs on the day, the first was a grand slam in the first inning and the second went down as the first at-bat of the third inning.

The Paladins led 7-4 after three innings, but the Bulldogs would come back and win by posting single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh to go along with three runs in the top of the eighth. Hartnagel's 2 RBI single back up the middle of the diamond got the team on the scoreboard and Houston would do the exact same thing in the second to score Kyle Niemiec and Alex Horowitz. Niemiec got the start in right field today while Horowitz took over at first base.

The game would move to 7-5 after Butler added another run to their total in the fourth. Houston hit a two-out double to center and then came around to score off the RBI single from Christman. Houston scored again in the sixth off a double from Hartnagel.

Butler's run in the seventh came off the bat of Jarosz who singled through the right side. BU would take full control of the action with three more runs in the top of the eighth. Christman made a statement with a lead-off home run to give BU the lead. Lucio would get involved with a two RBI single. He took over at first base by entering the game as a pinch runner in the seventh.

Defensively, Butler ended the game without a single error and used six pitchers on the mound to get the win. Jack Pilcher got the start, but a majority of the work would go to Josh Walker who tossed three full innings. River Pitlock was credited with the win. The talented redshirt-junior has battled injuries throughout his career, but only allowed one hit during his one inning of action to get the decision.

The save went to Chris Myjak, his fourth of the season. Myjak threw the final two innings and faced eight batters. He had two strikeouts and only allowed two hits.

Butler will return home and start preparing for the 2017 home opener which will be played on Friday against Fort Wayne. Game one of the three game series will start at 4 PM.
