Powered by a strong second round, Butler's women's golf team jumped to a third-place finish at the Indiana State Spring Invitational that concluded Monday afternoon in Terre Haute, Ind.
The Bulldogs entered the second and final round in fifth place, but improved their team score by nine strokes over Sunday's opening round. Butler shot 307 Monday compared to 316 Sunday.
Abigail Gleixner led the Bulldogs in each round, shooting a 77 followed by a 75 to finish in a tie for seventh at 152. Teammate
Lauren Tibbets was two shots behind her over the 36 holes, finishing in a tie for ninth.
Kelsey McDougall (78-78—156, T-13
th),
Rachel Gathof (83-78—161, T-29
th), and
Betsy Werner (87-78—165, T-43
rd) rounded out the Butler five.
Host Indiana State won the event with a two-round score of 610. That was eight shots better than Western Illinois, and 13 shots better than third-place Butler. Twelve teams comprised the event. Evansville's Kayla Katterhenry won the event by four shots (145).Â
The tournament was held at The Country Club of Terre Haute, which featured a par-72, 6,041-yard layout.

The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday at Crooked Stick Golf Club as part of the Big Four event. Butler's women's team will compete against Depauw, Hanover and Franklin. The Butler men will play against Depauw, Hanover and Wabash. Players begin teeing off at 11 a.m.
