Lauren Tibbets, Butler's women's golf team ran away with the Big Four title Tuesday at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind. Tibbets fired a five-over 77 to win the event.
Butler's men finished second.
The women took five of the top seven individual spots, as
Kelsey McDougall (78),
Abigail Gleixner (82),
Betsy Werner (85), and
Rachel Gathof (86) represented the Bulldogs. Butler's top four combined for a team score of 322, which put some distance between them and the field. Hanover finished second (356) followed by third-place Franklin (403).
Hanover won the men's competition behind Tony Rogers' winning round of even-par 72. Hanover recorded a team score of 304, which was four strokes better than Butler's 308.
Freshman
Michael Denner led the Bulldogs with a two-over round of 74. He finished second overall. Another freshman,
Patrick Allgeier, tied for fifth with a round of 77.
Gehrig Hollatz (78, seventh),
Joey Arcuri (79, tied-eighth), and
Hunter Byram (83, tied-16
th) rounded out the Butler squad.
Zack Carrabine, playing as an individual, shot an 81 to tie for 13
th.
DePauw finished third (313), followed by Wabash (340).
Butler's men return to action Friday at the Ball State-hosted Earl Yestingmeier Invitational. That is their final competition prior to the BIG EAST Championships at the end of the month.
The women play Sunday and Monday in the Jaguar-Crusader Invitational, a match-play event in Lebanon, Ind. The women then travel to the BIG EAST Championships April 21.
