Temple Takes Down @ButlerWLacrosse 19-7

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple Owls picked up a 19-7 win over Butler on Wednesday afternoon. The Bulldogs were led by Haley Hallenbeck who scored two goals and added an assist for three points.

Hallenbeck shared the team lead in goals with Journey Fischbeck who also found the back of the net two times. Scoring was rounded out by Sydney Pattison, Rachel Kegler and Ashley Lizzi.

Temple used the entire roster against BU and was led to victory by Brenda McDermott who posted three goals. Kira Gensler and Carly DeMato also impacted the action with a combined seven goals off the bench.

The Bulldogs posted their highest goal total of the season against a BIG EAST opponent. They scored seven goals off just 16 shots, but were hurt by turnovers. Butler turned it over 20 times compared to just eight miscues from the home team.

One of the highlights from today would be Butler's ability to gain possession off draw controls. Butler came up with two more draw controls than Temple to win that category 15-13. Christina Soderquist stepped up with seven of the 15.

The Bulldogs used two goalies on Wednesday with Haley Rayburn getting the start. Rayburn logged 40 minutes of playing time and left the game after posting nine saves. Allie Storke came in for the final 20 minutes and provided BU with three saves.

Temple scored the first goal of the game less than a minute into competition, but Butler would recover with a goal of their own to knot the score at 1-1. A 7-0 Owl scoring run would follow and put Temple in the driver's seat for the rest of the day.

Lizzi would break up the scoring run with a free position goal with 6:02 left in the first half and Butler's final goal of the opening 30 minutes would come at the 3:42 mark from Pattison, unassisted.

Temple outscored BU 8-4 in the second half. Hallenbeck scored quickly to pull BU within seven at 11-4. The next four goals would go to Temple to push the lead back to 15-4.

Butler got their offense going midway through the second half to tally three-straight goals. Fischbeck took advantage of a free position shot to score her first goal of the game and Kegler would follow with her third goal of the season off a feed from Hallenbeck. Fischbeck would score her 17th goal of the year unassisted after the Kegler goal, but any chance of a comeback was put to rest with Temple scoring the final four goals of the game.

Butler will now look ahead to Saturday's matchup against #3 Florida. The game between the Gators and Bulldogs will get underway at Varsity Field with a 12 PM start.
