@ButlerUFootball Spring Game Set for Friday

Butler will host its annual Blue-White spring football game Friday, April 14 at approximately 5 p.m. at the Butler Bowl. The team will begin warming up at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs began the spring season in March with a series of 14 practices leading up to Friday's game.

There will be a special scoring system used for the spring game, which will feature Butler's offense against the defense. The offense (wearing white) will receive points for touchdowns, extra points, field goals, first downs, long passing plays, long running plays and fourth down conversions. The defense (in blue jerseys) will score points with 3-and-outs, takeaways, defensive touchdowns/PATs, blocked/missed PATs, defensive stops, sacks, tackles for loss, and fourth down stops.

The spring game will feature four 15-minute quarters with a running clock. The clock will stop between drives and with under two minutes to play in the fourth quarter. The only special teams plays will be field goals and PATs. If the game requires overtime, a single drive from the 25 will occur utilizing the scoring system.
The Bulldogs will return a number of key pieces for the 2017 campaign.

The Bulldogs return their entire running back committee, headlined by All-PFL performer Duvante Lane. He is joined by Anthony Scaccia, John Hall, Brad Sznajder, and Sam Schrader. Lane was among the PFL leaders with nine touchdowns in 2016. Scaccia saw some time at wide receiver to maximize his time on the field, while Schrader was working back from an injury that ended his 2015 season prematurely.

Wide receiver Pace Temple was the team's Newcomer of the Year following the 2015 season, and he put together a sophomore campaign that was among the program's best with 61 receptions for 978 yards. He was among the FCS leaders throughout the season in receiving yards.

Ethan Brunhofer is the defense's leading returning tackler, as his 74 stops in 2016 were third on the team. Josh Willis will lead the Butler pass rush after receiving a medical redshirt for the 2016 season.

The Spring Game will be one of the key opportunities for younger players on the roster to showcase their skills as the Bulldogs graduated a number of players along the offensive line, while also losing starters at quarterback, defensive tackle, linebacker, and safety.

The Bulldogs kick off the fall campaign Saturday, Sept. 2 at Illinois State. The team's home opener is Sept. 16 against Taylor at the Butler Bowl.
