INDIANAPOLIS --
Damon Bailey has resigned from his position at Butler University as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team. Bailey will leave the program to focus his time and efforts on the Hawkins Bailey Warehouse distribution company, a business located in Bailey's hometown of Bedford, Ind. where he serves as co-owner.
Â
"Damon is a childhood friend and a best friend," Head Coach
Kurt Godlevske stated. "We were closing in on coaching together for a decade, so not having him around to strategize for our next game or just to talk basketball is a tough thing for me personally. He made a sacrifice to come to Butler for me, to help lay the foundation for what we now have. I owe him a tremendous amount of gratitude, and I'm thankful for his time here at Butler. I can only imagine how difficult juggling two time-demanding professions must have been."
Â
Bailey spent three years on the sidelines at Hinkle Fieldhouse working as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs. He was Coach Godlevske's first hire after becoming head coach. Bailey joined Butler on May 13th, 2014 after guiding the Bedford North Lawrence women's basketball team to an IHSAA Class 4A State Title. Bailey and Godlevske coached together at Bedford North Lawrence for four seasons before joining forces at Butler from 2014-17.
