NEW YORK – The BIG EAST announced its All-BIG EAST First and Second Teams Friday, with Butler freshman
Patrick Allgeier earning second-team honors. The selections were made by the league's head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
The news comes in advance of the 2017 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship Presented by Jeep, which will be held at Callawassie Island Golf Club in Callawassie Island, S.C., April 30 through May 2.
The BIG EAST Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year will be announced after the BIG EAST Championship.
Allgeier leads the Bulldogs with a 73.63 stroke average. He enters the Championship with five straight top-10 finishes. He is one of only two freshmen to be on the All-BIG EAST teams.
Championship play begins Sunday in South Carolina. Butler finished the 2016 event tied for sixth as
Joey Arcuri placed seventh individually. The 54-hole championship will have the first groups tee off at 8 a.m. each morning.
