Butler's Joey Arcuri holds the individual lead after 18 holes of the 2017 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship. The senior used two birdies and 16 pars to card a two-under 70. 

Arcuri navigated the Par 72, 6,983-yd. Callawassie Island course two shots better than the entire field. Teammate Patrick Allgeier and Seton Hall's Gen Nagai are tied for second with an even-par 72.

After the first round of play in sunny but windy conditions, the top six teams are separated by only four strokes with DePaul and Georgetown tied for first place. DePaul and Georgetown both compiled team scores of 14-over-par 302. Marquette, Seton Hall and Xavier are tied for third place two strokes back at 304 (+16). Butler is sixth at 305 (+17).
 
Hunter Byram shot a six-over 78 Sunday and is tied for 19^th. Gehrig Hollatz (85, +13, T-41^st) and Michael Denner (86, +14, 44^th) rounded out Butler's five-player line-up. Arcuri was Butler's top finisher a year ago, placing seventh at the 2016 event.
 
The second round of the 54-hole tournament begins Monday at 8 a.m. ET. Denner will be the first Butler player to tee off Monday (8:50 a.m.). Live results are available through Golfstat.
 
The BIG EAST team winner earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.  Should the individual champion not be a member of the championship team, he will also earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field as an individual.
