Host Providence scored seven unanswered runs to take a 7-5 win in the rubber game of a three-game series in Rhode Island Sunday afternoon. With the result, Butler is now 17-19 overall and 5-3 in BIG EAST play.
Providence is 12-19 overall and 3-6 in conference. The Friars took two of three in the series.
The Bulldogs put four runs on the board in the top of the first. The extended two-out rally featured a two-run double by
Kaitlin Doud and a two-run single by
Alyssa Lach. The Friars avoided further damage by stranding three Bulldogs on base.
Butler added another run in the second as

Sarah Dixon on a sacrifice fly. The Bulldogs chased PC starter Christina Ramirez in that half-inning.
Providence would come back with two runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth to take a 7-5 lead that would hold up. The Friars faced the minimum over the final three innings, allowing only a hit by pitch in the seventh inning, later erased on a game-ending double play.
Dixon and Doud each had two of Butler's seven hits. Doud went 4.1 innings and took the loss in the circle.
Mikeila Boroff came on in relief, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings.
Miranda Trinidad went six innings in relief, picking up the win. Julianne Rurka had a home run and four RBIs.
The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday, hosting Eastern Illinois at 5 p.m. Butler hosts St. John's in a weekend BIG EAST series beginning Saturday.
