Bulldogs are still in the thick of the leaderboard as the second round of the 2017 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship is in the books. Senior Joey Arcuri and freshman Patrick Allgeier continued their strong play Monday, remaining in contention for the individual title.

Monday's 18 included morning showers and significant windy conditions

Arcuri entered the day with the individual lead and played well. The senior was three-over through three holes, but responded with back-to-back birdies on holes 4 and 5 to get his round back on track. He birdied No. 18 to post a two-over round of 74. He is tied for first at even-par 144.

Allgeier, who shot an even-par 72 Sunday, followed that with a one-over 73 Monday at the par-72, 6,983-yd. Callawassie Island course. His round consisted of two birdies and three bogeys. He and Seton Hall's Gen Nagai are tied for fourth at one-over 145 with 18 holes remaining.

As a team, Butler climbed from sixth into a tie for third in the standings. The Bulldogs and Marquette are both at 613 (+37). DePaul, which shot a six-over 294 as a team Monday, is in first at 596 (+20), followed by Seton Hall at 603 (+27). Georgetown and Xavier trail the two teams tied for third by three and six shots, respectively.

Marquette's Matt Bachmann led for most of the day, but gave two shots back to the field over his last four holes. He shot a one-under 71 and is one of the players tied with Arcuri at the top of the leaderboard. DePaul's Jonathan Hewett posted a two-under 70 in the second round to take the other spot at the top of the leaderboard. His 70 matched Seton Hall's Lloyd Jefferson Go for the low round of the day. Go won the 2016 event and is alone in sixth, two shots behind Arcuri's group and one shy of Allgeier.

Butler's Hunter Byram carded his second consecutive 78 and stands at +12 (156) for the tournament. He is tied for 21st. Gehrig Hollatz shot 83 (+11) Monday. His is at 168 (+24). Michael Denner signed a scorecard for an 87 in the second round. His two-round score is 173.

Play concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes of the 54-hole event that will determine the team and individual champions. The first groups will tee off at 8 a.m. Live results are available through Golfstat.
 
The BIG EAST team winner earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Should the individual champion not be a member of the championship team, he will also earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field as an individual.
