VILLANOVA, Pa. – Butler's
Erik Peterson,
Allie Vogeler and
Wade Walder posted wins Saturday in the final day of the 2017 BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships Presented by Jeep.
Peterson jumped out to the lead in the 5,000 meters and cruised to a 14:11.33 win. Teammate
Jonathan Collier placed fifth.
Walder won the decathlon with 6,265 points. Walder would also place third in the 110-meter hurdles.
Richard Clark and
Abe Margo placed third and fourth, respectively, in the decathlon.
In a tightly-contested 1,500 meters,
Euan Makepeace placed fourth with a time of 3:53.81. The top four runners were separated by less than two seconds.
Vogeler's winning time of 1:00.19 in the 400-meter hurdles also set a new Butler school record. She joins
Olivia Pratt, who won the 10,000 meters Friday night, as Butler women's champions.
Held at the Jumbo Elliott Track at Villanova Stadium, the Marquette women successfully defended their outdoor track & field title with a score of 195 points; the DePaul men won their first outdoor crown with 204 points.
Marquette's Monique Felix, the Women's High Point Performer of the Meet, won the high jump (1.70 meters) and heptathlon (5,196 points) and was runner-up in the triple jump. Terica Harris, voted the Women's Most Outstanding Field Performer, won the long jump (5.87 meters) and triple jump (12.27 meters).
In the men's championship, DePaul won a team-best seven event titles. Senior Trevor Kintyhtt repeated as the Men's Most Outstanding Field Performer, a unanimous selection by the head coaches, who could not cast ballots for their own student-athletes. Kintytt won the hammer throw (62.61 meters) and discus (49.44 meters). Junior sprinter Sebastian Feyersinger was co-Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer winning both the 200-meter (21.61) and 400-meter (47.45) dashes.
