2017 Bracket (PDF)
The Butler duo of
Mikheil Khmiadashvili and
Mason Dragos has learned their opponent for this week's doubles competition as part of the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships.
The Bulldogs will face Fabian Fallert and Grey Hamilton, a team from the University of Mississippi currently ranked No. 19 nationally. The bracket was announced on Tuesday, May 23.
The match is set for Thursday, May 25 with a match time to be announced Wednesday.
The NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Subcommittee selected 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams to compete in the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships May 24-29 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, hosted by the University of Georgia.
Khmiadashvili and Dragos are currently ranked No. 60 nationally in the most recent ITA rankings. The duo is 12-3 on the season, including 8-2 at the No. 1 position this spring.
This is believed to be the first Butler singles or doubles selection to the championships.
All matches will be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
Automatic qualification into the Division I doubles championship is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible doubles teams ranked in the ITA Top 60 for eligible/entered doubles teams. For conferences with more than one doubles team within the ITA Top 60 eligible/entered doubles teams, the subcommittee applies the NCAA selection criteria to determine which doubles team is the automatic qualifier from those conferences. All doubles teams must have started a minimum of 10 doubles matches, eight must be completed, with four of the eight matches completed in the spring, in order to be selected as an automatic qualifier or an at-large selection.
