Notre Dame used a walk-off double to post a come-from-behind, 4-3 win over visiting Butler Wednesday night in South Bend, Ind.
With two outs and runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh, Notre Dame's Morgan Reed doubled down the left field line to erase Butler's 3-2 advantage.
Notre Dame improves to 30-19 on the season, while Butler is now 20-28 after its final non-conference game of the season.
Butler took its lead in the top of the sixth.
Alyssa Lach doubled to open the inning before
Kaitlin Doud sent a blast over the left field fence. Doud's fourth home run of the season gave Butler a 2-1 lead. After a single, an error and two strikeouts,
Brandyce Sallee came to the plate with runners on first and second. Her single to right center scored pinch-runner
Zoe St. Cyr.
The Bulldogs took that 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth. With two on and no outs,
Mikeila Boroff came on in relief of starter
Gabbi Schnaiter. Boroff was able to get out of the jam with Notre Dame pushing only one run across.
That set up Notre Dame's bottom of the seventh heroics.
Schnaiter went 5-plus innings, allowing two runs on only four hits. Boroff took the loss, allowing the two seventh-inning runs.
Doud added two doubles to her home run, going 3-for-4 on the evening. Butler had nine hits, including two by
Jenna Foreman.
Katie Beriont came on in relief of starter Rachel Nasland and was credited with the win after two scoreless innings.
The Bulldogs were looking to end a streak of 27 nonconference midweek home wins by the Fighting Irish.
The Bulldogs return to action this weekend with a three-game series against Georgetown to conclude the regular season. Butler is in the middle of the hunt to make the BIG EAST Tournament as the top four teams in the conference advance to the league's postseason tournament.
