Butler and Saint Louis have entered into a home-and-home scheduling agreement. The teams will meet at Hinkle Fieldhouse Saturday, Dec. 2, before playing in St. Louis during the 2018-19 season.
Saint Louis enters year two under head coach Travis Ford. The Billikens finished 12-21 a year ago but will have a much different look as they welcome in at least six newcomers. Four NCAA Division I transfers will be eligible in 2017-18. In addition, two ESPN Top 100 recruits figure to be immediate contributors for a Billiken team that advanced to three straight NCAA Tournaments from 2012-14. Â
The teams last met during the 2012-13 season. Butler and Saint Louis actually played three times that season, Butler's only season in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Billikens won all three games. Butler is 11-19 all-time against Saint Louis, a series that dates back to when both were members of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference (now the Horizon League).
The remainder of Butler's non-conference schedule will be released over the coming months. That schedule will include a Dec. 16 Crossroads Classic game against Purdue at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, while the Bulldogs will host Utah in the back end of a home-and-home agreement that began last season in Salt Lake City. The opponents for Butler's first two regular season contests of the season have already been announced – Princeton and Kennesaw State.
Butler is one of 16 teams selected to be part of PK80 – Phil Knight Invitational, an early-season men's college basketball tournament honoring Nike co-founder and 2012 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Phil Knight in advance of his 80
th birthday. The event is scheduled for Nov. 23-26 in Portland, Ore.
