INDIANAPOLIS – Butler head coach
Kurt Godlevske is pleased to announce the addition of Katherine Strong to the women's basketball program. Strong spent the first two seasons of her collegiate career at VCU. She will sit out the 2017-18 season due to the NCAA transfer rule, but will be eligible to play for the Bulldogs the following season.
"We are excited to welcome Katherine to our Bulldog family," Godlevske stated. "From our first visit with Katherine, our staff and players fell in love with her personality and her desire to learn. She's a big-time athlete that runs the floor well, is strong around the basket, and has a terrific first step. Her size allows her to guard multiple positions and she has a nose for the basketball. I couldn't be more thrilled that she chose us and I can't wait to coach her!"
Strong was a role player for VCU in 2016-17, seeing playing time in 30 of 31 games. She averaged 3.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. The 5-11 guard from Chicago Heights, Ill. averaged 12.8 minutes of playing time and shot 43 percent from the field.
As a true freshman, Strong appeared in 26 games averaging 2.2 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. She scored eight points and pulled down two rebounds in the season opener vs. Coppin State and would tie that scoring total with eight points against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Prior to VCU, Strong earned Southland All-Conference and All-Area honors at Bloom High School. She was forced to the sideline during her junior campaign with and ACL injury.
The highly touted recruit split her AAU basketball time between the Illinois Wolverines and Mac Irvin Godfather, two of the most highly competitive AAU teams in the Chicago area.
