Erik Peterson - 2016 BIG EAST

Men's Track and Field John Dedman

Peterson and Makepeace Ready for NCAA Championships

Butler's Erik Peterson and Euan Makepeace will compete against the nation's top competition over the next few days at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The event, held in Eugene, Ore., begins Wednesday and runs through Saturday, June 10.

Peterson will run in the 10,000 meters Wednesday night. The race is scheduled for 10:08 p.m. (Eastern, 7:08 in Eugene). ESPN will be airing the championships during Peterson's race. A full broadcast schedule for the championships can be found here.

Peterson placed eighth in the event in 2016, earning All-American honors. The senior won the NCAA East Regional to qualify for the NCAA Championships. His time two weekends ago in Lexington, Ky., of 29:55.06 was well off his season-best mark of 28:11.02 that he ran at Stanford earlier this season. The NCAA Regional is a race where the pace is controlled with the lone goal of being one of the top 12 finishers. Those 12, along with 12 from the West region, comprise the 24-runner field for Wednesday night's race.

Wednesday night's race will mark the final collegiate race of Peterson's storied career.

Makepeace will compete Friday night in the 5,000 meters. It is the first NCAA Championships race for the talented youngster. Makepeace placed third at the NCAA East Regional. Makepeace finished fourth at the BIG EAST Championships last month.

The ESPN family of networks will broadcast the championships. Live results and a video stream through ESPN3.com are also available. Links are available on the Butler web site.
