@ButlerMBB Announces Complete 2017-18 Non-Conference Schedule

With several opponents previously announced, head coach LaVall Jordan released Butler's complete 2017-18 non-conference schedule Monday, July 24.

"This non-conference schedule allows us to test ourselves against quality competition as we prepare for the rigors of the BIG EAST," said Jordan, who was hired as Butler's new head coach on June 12. "There will be a lot of exciting afternoons and evenings at Hinkle Fieldhouse this season."

Butler's previously-announced home contests include Kennesaw State (Friday, Nov. 10), Princeton (Sunday, Nov. 12), and Saint Louis (Saturday, Dec. 2). The Bulldogs will travel to Maryland to face the Terrapins in the Gavitt Tip-Off Games on Wednesday, Nov. 15 and face a second Big Ten opponent in Purdue on Saturday, Dec. 16 as part of the annual Crossroads Classic at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis.

In the back end of the home-and-home series with Utah that began last season in Salt Lake City, Butler will host the Runnin' Utes on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

The Bulldogs will host six opponents at Hinkle Fieldhouse in addition to match-ups previously announced. Butler welcomes Furman (Saturday, Nov. 18), Youngstown State (Saturday, Dec. 9), Morehead State (Tuesday, Dec. 19), and Western Illinois (Thursday, Dec. 21) in regular season non-conference match-ups. Hanover (Saturday, Oct. 28) and Lincoln Memorial (Saturday, Nov. 4) are the team's two exhibition contests this season.

The match-up with Furman is part of the PK80 Invitational with the game being played at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Tyler Lewis, who graduated from Butler in May after playing two seasons for the Bulldogs, was recently hired as the video coordinator on the Furman staff. Following the game with Furman, the Bulldogs will then depart for Portland and a first-round match-up with Texas. Butler will play three games in Portland in arguably the most acclaimed early-season tournament in college basketball history.

The BIG EAST conference schedule will be announced in early September. At that time, game times and television assignments for both non-conference and conference games will be released.

After leading Butler to conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances as both a player and assistant coach, LaVall Jordan returns to his alma mater as the program's 24th head coach. He inherits a talented roster that finished the 2016-17 season with a 25-9 record, advancing to the sixth Sweet 16 in program history. The Bulldogs earned their highest NCAA Tournament seed in program history on the heels of a second-place finish in the BIG EAST standings. Leading scorer and All-BIG EAST selection Kelan Martin returns alongside starters Tyler Wideman and Kamar Baldwin. That trio will join an experienced group of returners and a highly-touted recruiting class.
