Pace Temple and
Duvante Lane were named to the 2017 Preseason All-Pioneer Football League Team as selected by the league's head coaches and announced Tuesday, July 25.
Returning players who were selected to the league's 2016 All-PFL Teams were placed automatically on the 2017 Preseason All-PFL team in order of voting. Eight First-Team All-PFL honorees return for the 2017 season. In addition, 14 Second-Team All-PFL selections and seven honorable mention recipients join the 2017 preseason squad.
Temple, a junior wide receiver, was a second-team honoree a season ago after amassing 978 receiving yards in 2016 – 24th nationally. His performance was among the top ten in Butler single-season history for receiving yards.
Lane was a Second-Team All-PFL choice last season after finishing fourth among PFL runners with nine touchdown carries. The redshirt senior running back had 706 rushing yards during the 2016 campaign. Â
Butler's 2017 season begins Saturday, Sept. 2, when the Bulldogs travel to Illinois State. The team's home opener is Sept. 16 against Taylor. The PFL regular-season race gets an early Week 2 start when Stetson travels to Marist, Sept. 9. The first full week of the PFL schedule follows two weeks later with a five-game slate, Sept. 23.
