Butler's Pace Temple and Duvante Lane were named to the 2017 Preseason All-Pioneer Football League Team as selected by the league's head coaches and announced Tuesday, July 25.

Returning players who were selected to the league's 2016 All-PFL Teams were placed automatically on the 2017 Preseason All-PFL team in order of voting. Eight First-Team All-PFL honorees return for the 2017 season. In addition, 14 Second-Team All-PFL selections and seven honorable mention recipients join the 2017 preseason squad.

Temple, a junior wide receiver, was a second-team honoree a season ago after amassing 978 receiving yards in 2016 – 24th nationally. His performance was among the top ten in Butler single-season history for receiving yards.

Lane was a Second-Team All-PFL choice last season after finishing fourth among PFL runners with nine touchdown carries. The redshirt senior running back had 706 rushing yards during the 2016 campaign.  

Butler's 2017 season begins Saturday, Sept. 2, when the Bulldogs travel to Illinois State. The team's home opener is Sept. 16 against Taylor. The PFL regular-season race gets an early Week 2 start when Stetson travels to Marist, Sept. 9. The first full week of the PFL schedule follows two weeks later with a five-game slate, Sept. 23.
