Original story:

Butler head coach LaVall Jordan will get an early preview of his 2017-18 team when he takes the team to Spain for a 10-day summer basketball tour. The Bulldogs, who will depart Indianapolis on August 2, will visit six cities and play four games on the foreign trip.

"This trip will be a tremendous learning opportunity for our team. We are thankful that through basketball our young men will get to travel overseas and learn a different culture, something they may not do otherwise," said Jordan, who was hired as the head coach at his alma mater on June 12. "We will also learn more about each other. The time we are able to spend together in this setting will create even stronger bonds off the court. On the court, this is a chance to compete, connect and continue to build toward the upcoming season."

The Bulldogs will begin the trip in Madrid, where they will play the Madrid All-Stars on the evening of Friday, August 4. The team will sight-see in Toledo on August 5 and then proceed to Albacete, where an afternoon tip against the Albacete Basketball Club is scheduled for Sunday, August 6. The team will spend August 7-8 in Valencia, playing the Valencia All-Stars on the evening of Tuesday, August 8. The team will make a quick stop in Cambrils on its way to Barcelona, where the Bulldogs will spend three days. Butler will take on the Catalan All-Stars on the evening of Thursday, August 10, just outside Barcelona. After another day in Barcelona, the Bulldogs will return to Indianapolis on Saturday, August 12.

In addition to the tour and the four games in Spain, the Bulldogs have also had the luxury of 10 additional practices over the summer to prepare for the trip. The NCAA allows teams to make a foreign trip once every four years.

Butler previously enjoyed foreign trips in 2013 (Australia), 2009 (Italy), 2004 (when the Bulldogs visited the Bahamas for a pair of October games), as well as trips to Finland (2000), Europe (1996) and Australia (1992).

After leading Butler to conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances as both a player and assistant coach, LaVall Jordan returns to his alma mater as the program's 24th head coach. He inherits a talented roster that finished the 2016-17 season with a 25-9 record, advancing to the sixth Sweet 16 in program history. The Bulldogs earned their highest NCAA Tournament seed in program history on the heels of a second-place finish in the BIG EAST standings. Leading scorer and All-BIG EAST selection Kelan Martin returns alongside starters Tyler Wideman and Kamar Baldwin. That trio will join an experienced group of returners and a highly-touted recruiting class.
