Butler men's tennis was well-represented on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's 2017 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes lists that were released Tuesday, July 25.

As a team, Butler received one of the ITA All-Academic Team Awards, which are open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2016 and spring 2017).

Three Bulldogs – senior Alex Woldmoe and sophomores Ari Gerstein and Spencer Lang – were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).

The academic awards cap a 2016-17 season that saw the Bulldogs enjoy tremendous success both on the court and in the classroom. Butler won its first BIG EAST team title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007. Butler finished tenth in the ITA rankings for the Ohio Valley region, while the doubles team of Mikheil Khmiadashvili and Mason Dragos earned a spot in the NCAA Doubles Championships and finished the 2017 season ranked ninth in the region.

Coach Parker Ross and the Bulldogs finished the season with a dual match record of 18-6.
