The 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Baseball Team has been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Butler outfielder
Gehrig Parker was selected as one of three outfielders in District 5 which includes schools from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.
Â
A junior from Park Ridge, Ill., Parker posted a 3.98 grade-point average in the classroom and saw action in all 51 games for BU. A starter in 48 of 51 contests, Parker held the third-highest batting average on the team at .294 and boasted a 4.94 slugging percentage. He provided Butler with 21 extra base hits, including five home runs.
Â
The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.Â
