Butler concluded its foreign trip to Spain with an 80-74 win over the Dax Gamarde Basketball Club, a professional team from France. Thursday night's game was played about 50 miles northeast of Barcelona in Sant Julia de Villatorta.
The Bulldogs went 4-0 in games played in Spain as first-year head coach LaVall Jordan led the Bulldogs for the first time.
Eight Bulldogs scored at least six points in Thursday's contest as Jordan distributed minutes, including resting his starting five extensively in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore
Kamar Baldwin had a team-high 15 points and five assists. He made five of nine attempts from the field and added four rebounds. Seven of
Kelan Martin's 12 points came in the first quarter as he was the other Bulldog in double figures. Martin had five rebounds.
Paul Jorgensen (nine),
Sean McDermott (eight),
Nate Fowler (eight),
Joey Brunk (eight),
Henry Baddley (six),
Christian David (six),
Tyler Wideman (three),
Aaron Thompson (three), and
Jerald Gillens-Butler (two) rounded out the scoring. Eleven of the 12 Bulldogs to see action scored in the contest.
Butler shot 47 percent from the field (29-62).
The Bulldogs used a 7-0 run midway through the second quarter to retake the lead, 30-28, and eventually a 37-32 halftime advantage. The French professionals scored the first five points of the second half to tie the lead, but the Bulldogs would rattle off seven straight points for a 44-37 lead they would never relinquish.
The lead would dwindle to three points on several occasions, but a Baddley steal and dunk in transition gave Butler a 71-61 lead with 6:38 remaining in the contest and Butler weathered a late run by Dax Gamarde.
Jordan's starting lineup Thursday night included Thompson, Baldwin, Baddley, Martin, and Wideman. Baddley became the eighth Bulldog to start at least one of Butler's four Spanish games (joining Jorgensen, McDermott and Fowler).
Thursday's game was the fourth and final contest of the team's foreign trip through Spain. The Bulldogs will spend Friday enjoying Barcelona before traveling back to Indianapolis Saturday.
