INDIANAPOLIS – The 2017-18 Butler women's basketball non-conference schedule was released today by head coach Kurt Godlevske. The Bulldogs will host Austin Peay, Lipscomb, Wisconsin and Loyola at Hinkle Fieldhouse this year while taking road trips to Murray State, South Florida, Ball State, Illinois State, and Indiana State. The non-conference slate also includes a trip to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam.

"We couldn't be more excited about the challenges that the 2017-18 schedule offers," Head Coach Kurt Godlevske stated. "We always try to prepare our team for the rigors of the BIG EAST and this year is no different. The opportunity to travel to the Virgin Islands and play against elite competition will definitely be a highlight. Our girls have had a great summer and we are looking forward to the challenges ahead."

The 2017-18 home opener is slated for Saturday, Nov. 11 this year with Butler hosting Austin Peay for a 7 PM tip. The first midweek game will follow with Butler playing at Murray State on Wednesday, Nov. 15. Butler's final home game during the month of November will be played against Lipscomb on Saturday, the 18th.

Before flying to the Virgin Islands to compete in the Paradise Jam, Butler will make a quick visit to Tampa, Fla. to face USF. The Bulls went 24-9 last year and were receiving votes in the final NCAA national poll after a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The Bulldogs will spend Thanksgiving in the Virgin Islands playing in the Paradise Jam. Three games will be played during three-straight days with BU going up against West Virginia, Virginia Tech and Drexel.

Two more road games follow the trip, with Butler heading to Ball State and Illinois State this year. Hinkle Fieldhouse will hold the action on Friday, Dec. 8 when the Bulldogs host the Wisconsin Badgers. The final home game of the non-conference season will be played after final exams week on Monday, Dec. 18 against Loyola. The final overall non-conference test will come on Thursday, Dec. 21 at Indiana State.

The Bulldogs return a strong core of players from last year's team including Second Team All-BIG EAST selection Tori Schickel. The 6-1 junior broke the Butler school record for most rebounds recorded in a single-season a year ago. She averaged 14.6 points and 11.7 rebounds per contest to end her sophomore campaign with 364 total boards.

On the perimeter, Butler will return Sydney Buck Michelle Weaver, Sydney Shelton and Kristen Spolyar. A new wrinkle to the Butler program will include Iowa transfer Whitney Jennings who is eligible to play this season. Many new faces will be on the sideline for Butler this year as Coach Godlevske brought in transfers from Penn State, VCU and Maine. That group will be able to practice this year, but will not compete in games due to the NCAA Transfer rule.

The complete 2017-18 schedule will be released at a later date. Please return to ButlerSports.com closer to the season to see full details.
